U12s claim first win with a true team effort at Cambridge

I couldn’t be prouder of our boys. Every player who stepped onto the court contributed, and the units that came on showed real teamwork. We won as a team. Our attitude, effort and collective mentality were outstanding, and you could see the kids’ confidence growing throughout the game.

What won it for us was simple: steals, great defence (although we can improve our boxing out), and smart passing on offence to find the open man. Our fast break was sublime. It’s genuinely hard to find things to criticise after a performance like that. If anything, we just need to relax a little more, take our time and avoid rushing shots. They capitalised on a few of our mistakes, but perfection isn’t the goal; improvement is. And we will face bigger and stronger teams as the season goes on.

For now, though, let’s enjoy this moment. Our first win, and many more to come. I’m incredibly lucky to coach such a fantastic group of boys, and even the referees complimented us on our engagement and sportsmanship. The support from the bench and the encouragement from our wonderful parents made a huge difference, especially towards the end.

A true team effort from everyone. Thank you for giving me my first win as a coach.

Go Knights.
