Match report —— NHK U12 vs Cambridge Cats Black
______________
NHK U12 faced their biggest challenge yet against the as yet undefeated Cambridge Cats Black team.
Q1 was all about finding our feet against a taller and more physical team. We forced many fouls creating lots of opportunities at the free throw line to keep us in contention. Q1 score 10 - 22
Q2 was a challenge, the Cats found a playbook in baseline-to-basket passes that caught us out of position and capitalised, increasing their lead to 25. Towards the end of the quarter however the Knights responded, getting back, blocking balls and shutting down the playbook. Q2 score 20 - 45 but this game was far from over!
In Q3 the Knights came out fierce, fast and flowing securing the first 10 points of the quarter. Moving the ball quickly between players and utilizing the cut backs from Friday’s training to create the space needed to score against a physical opposition. This was exciting basketball and we won the quarter reducing the lead to 21. Q3 score 41 - 62.
The Cats flipped the momentum at the start of the last quarter getting 16 of the first 18 points but Knights refused to bow down, responding with a strong finish right up to the final seconds to secure the last 8 points and reduce the gap to finish 56 - 86.
Where we excelled today was in getting the ball moving and creating space, long drives from the baseline and holding the ball too long were too easy to block out by a taller team.
An impressive display of resilience and adaptability from the boys. A defeat to be proud of. Let’s go Knights!!
